Script Submission Information

The closing date for script submissions is now FEBRUARY 7th, so keep sending those 10 minute plays!

The Edinburgh 10 Minuters will be using independent script submission from budding young writers across the city in order to find the ten minute plays that will be performed. If you are a young person or university student in Edinburgh, interested in writing – whether you’re writing a play a month or never before – we are asking you to write and submit ten minute plays, a select few of which will be performed by the Edinburgh 10 Minuters in their inaugural 2012 run.

All you need to do is read the simple rules below, write a play and submit it to our webpage, and your work may be chosen for performance by a collective of young theatremakers in the coming year.

Submission Guidelines

1)   The script must be for a stage play that can be performed in under 10 minutes. Plays that are thought to exceed 10 minutes will not be used.

2)   The script must be for a cast of 2-5 people. This does not necessarily mean 2-5 characters, all speaking roles or all roles of equal sizes; we encourage you to get creative!

3)   The script must be submitted as a .doc Word document, with double-spaced lines in 12 point Times New Roman.

4)   The scripts must be submitted by February 7th, 2012. Any scripts submitted after this date will not be included in the shortlisting process.

5) Please put your name, your age, and any student or youth theatre groups you are involved in, at the top of your script's first page. Also, include an e-mail address or phone number you can be contacted at.

The Process

-                 After the closing submission date of February 7th, 2012, the plays received will go through a shortlisting process. This will be conducted by the 10 Minuters management team, as well as some local Edinburgh theatre professionals, who will pick out a variety of plays to show to the directors.

-                 Directors will read through the various play submissions and pick out the script they would like to use. They will then begin casting, rehearsing and eventually performing.

-                 You will then be able to attend the performance and see your work in action, onstage, in front of an audience spanning Edinburgh and including a variety of local theatre professionals.
